After doing the first version in Adobe Illustrator (too modern and digressing from my original idea) I decided to loosen up a bit and sketch it, scan it, and crudly vectored (needs to be cleaned up if selected) it to create the second version more inline with my original concept. The font is a temporary place holder and could also be added to the first version.

Jaz thinks that the logo needs to be letters only. I could be convinced. I completely agree with Jaz that it needs to convey 'art' or 'artists'. I think the sofa image and word is a strong and memorable visual link and that we should milk it for all the hype we can.

I also agree that it could be edgier. I was trying to keep it neutral so every artist's style won't be offended. But that leaves us with bland.

I discovered the Adobe Illustrator file above lacked the v2.4 layer. It is now corrected.

I modified and matched the colours of the web version of the logo (orange=#EEA71E, blue=#00B1FF):

I've modified the vertical sign design elements to be more reusable in massproduction. The orange square, text, and logos remain the same size, the blue proportions differ, and the red arrow length differs between horizontal and vertical designs.

Here are the files based on last nights meeting. The outline versions are set up to be opened in Illustrator or Photoshop and printed on 11x17" paper ("some clipping may occur"), then they can be trace cut on rubylith to be re-aligned when transfered to screen.

I talked to Bill this afternoon and we've revised the sign one last time to have straight text (easier to cut) and smaller 'open studio' so that the whole end will be taped off with one piece rather than three.
