Political debate on corporate media is akin to pro wrestling being about athletic competition.

"It is the sense of the Congress that the United States is not a democracy - but a republic."

The election may have been rigged. It is not proven but it would be remarkably easy for those who would know how since the Diebold (electronic election machine manufacturer) source code was leaked (including the obsolite encription, along with the key!!!) and the code and technical inadequacies are riddiculously astounding and ripe for exploitation (running on MicroSoft Windows, not even with the 15+ security upgrades?).
This cover story on Diebold was deleted from the Jewish Times:

To vote for someone who might be a slightly lesser evil every four years means you will always be stuck with evil.
Always.
It's not a matter of a short term who's in the white house, it's a matter of how to build a new political movement.

In Election 2004 Bush received the votes of just over 30 percent of the electorate, Kerry a bit less. The 'red' and 'blue' states (whatever significance that may have). At least 40% obviously don't feel the results affect them as they aren't even represented. Most people voting for Kerry, while bad, probably didn't want the worst option, Bush. CEOs are euphoric for 4 more years of Bush not because they oppose gay marriage but for the unconcealed efforts to transfer to future generations the costs of the dedicated service of Bush planners to privilege and wealth: fiscal and environmental costs, among others, not to speak of the threat of "ultimate doom." People vote on the basis of "moral values." "When the American voters were asked to choose the most urgent moral crisis facing their country, 33 percent cited 'greed and materialism,' 31 percent selected 'poverty and economic justice,' 16 percent named abortion, and 12 percent selected gay marriage" (Pax Christi).
We learn very little of any significance from the elections, but we can learn a lot from the studies of public attitudes that are kept in the shadows. Though it is natural for doctrinal systems to try to induce pessimism, hopelessness, and despair, the real lessons are quite different. They are encouraging and hopeful. They show that there are substantial opportunities for education and organizing, including the development of potential electoral alternatives. Rights aren't granted by benevolent authorities, or won by intermittent actions - a few large demonstrations after which one goes home, or pushing a lever in the personalized quadrennial extravaganzas that are depicted as "democratic politics." As always in the past, the tasks require day-to-day engagement to create - in part re-create - the basis for a functioning democratic culture in which the public plays some role in determining policies, not only in the political arena from which it is largely excluded, but also in the crucial economic arena, from which it is excluded in principle.

DEMOCRACY WATCH: The Non-Election of 2004 by Noam Chomsky on ZMag. ]

Things are not black and white, red or blue, nor even shades of purple. There is a whole spectrum of options missing considering the US has one party, the business party with two factions, primarily representing the interests of the minority of corporate, rich, white, men. They need representation rather than distraction about non-issues. How can love and commitment (Gay marriage) be worse than war and financial deficit? Who cares if he's more likeable or not if he can do the job better? People are voting for the wrong reasons and are distracted from voting for the right reasons.
Red, purple, blue - the colours of blood. America sells it's heart and soul away to corporate tyrant powers. Have they lost their mind too? Or eyes to see? Maybe they're just colour blind. Why are there no green, sunshiney yellow, or bright orange parties? Dubious W may have barely won the 2004 election (possibly with corruptible computer balloting), but not by much. 'Officially.'
Actually many Americans didn't vote at all. Perhaps they are poor in a system that keeps them repressed, uneducated, and struggling for survival rather than focusing on which rich white old man is supposed to represent them, Mr. Evil Jr. or Mr. Slightly-Less-Evil. Perhaps Americans aren't as blind to the lack of democracy after all since this administration is bold enough to act as if he's got 100% approval and support.
